The Altar Societies of Shelbina, Clarence, Macon, and Bevier have been working hard for decades to help maintain the needs of the liturgies as well as support multiple area charities and the youth in our parishes.

They host funeral dinners and fundraiser meals, provide for needy families and the nursing homes at Christmas and host many parish receptions/gatherings. If you are a woman age 18 or over, consider becoming part of the parish Altar Society.

Our parishes collect donations from parishioners at second collections to fund CARES. The money is distributed to support local entities such as the food banks, Ray of Hope, and senior citizens. The funds are also used for hotel, gas, food, utilities, and medical expenses for those who come to our parishes in need as well as parishioners in need of assistance.

Ladies from Sacred Heart in Bevier along with those from other community churches come together to provide an upscale "free" boutique for anyone in need. The clean and well-organized store offers anything from housewares, home goods and decor to clothing and shoes of all sizes from infants to men and women. This ministry is on the grounds of St. Mary's in Shelbina and is a 50° x 150' garden for all, providing not only for the volunteers, but also for the Immaculate Conception School and local food pantry.

Members of Sacred Heart in Bevier and St. Patrick in Clarence join other churches in their communities to provide a Thanksgiving meal for all those without a place to spend the holiday. More help and additional food are welcomed.

Active Parish Councils, Finance Councils, and Home and School Advisories meet regularly to help advise our pastor on the many plans, projects, and happening of the parishes and school. Parishioners from St.Mary's and IC take part each summer in feeding kids in the parks while school is out. Contact the parish office to see how you can help.

The Hamilton Foundation Scholarship, funded by the late Charles and Pauline Hamilton is a $2,000 yearly renewable scholarship available to a St.Mary's senior each year. Members of the Knights of Columbus form a committee that reviews applications and chooses the recipient.

Students from our Catholic school gather items for personal care and emergency supplies to create bags for people who are passing through in need of help, the homeless, or struggling. The bags are kept at the parish offices and given when needed.

Both St.Mary's in Shelbina and Immaculate Conception in Macon have maintained active and charitable K of C councils for decades, serving their parishes and communities year after year! Both councils are known for their supreme generosity, whether providing local scholarships to parish seniors or raising funds for the local pregnancy center. They provide for and support a wide variety of needs on local, state, and national levels. Not to mention, many of the men who belong to the Knights of Columbus are often found volunteering county-wide and serving as liturgical ministers in our churches. Many of the parishioners of our parishes lead and volunteer at our local food banks. Both Macon and Shelbina have regularly scheduled distribution days that serve those who need in our counties. For more information call either St.Mary's or IC parish offices.

This ministry was founded by parishioners of St.Mary's in Shelbina and is served by many still to send monetary help to those facing surgeries, cancer, illness, or loss. They have an annual fundraiser and meet monthly to allocate funds to those in need in Shelby County.

Our local pregnancy help center was co-founded by parishioners and is fully supported by donors such as the Knights of Columbus, Altar Societies, our parish Cares funds, and individuals in all parishes.

Deacon Larry hosts the Red Cross as they use our parish hall in Shelbina.

Volunteers are key to the success of our Pre-K to 8th Grade Catholic school at Immaculate Conception. From becoming a prayer partner to a student, maintaining our facility, to assisting in the classroom, there's sure to be a place for you. Contact our ICS Office or Leigh Ann Grant, principal. 

Women come together at the Fr. Buhman Center in Shelbina each Wednesday and quit from 9am until 3pm. The beautiful quilts are then given out to those in need. Many have been provided to families who are victims of house fires as well as mothers and babies of our local pregnancy center. The quilts are also donations for local fundraisers and a quilt is always gifted to our priest upon arrival to our parish assignment. You do not have to be a quilter or know how to sew to help with this ministry. Cutting, ironing, measuring and pinning are all ways you can lend a hand.

The volunteers of Cinderella's Boutique gather on Tuesdays at 1pm to upcycle plastic shopping bags into amazing sleeping mats for the homeless. Once finished, they are filled with a variety of items for warmth and personal care then rolled up and delivered to places for distribution such as local churches or offered near tent camps.

The social concerns committees were formed several years ago to meet the needs of both parishioners and non-parishioners with special circumstances as well as strive to form a place of charity, welcome, and collaboration. They have built handicap ramps, roofed a house, done painting projects, and hosted many free and fun gatherings and meals at the church hall for both the church and community. An all parish groups who come together to serve on projects that are needed in the parish or community. Recently, clean-up and prep work was done at a local campground and decks were removed and rebuilt for a homebound parishioner.

The former rectory of St. Patrick's is now being used for temporary transtional rent-free housing for single mothers and children who are waiting for public housing.

Each year in November collections are set up for both supplies for the babies of our local pregnancy help center, Ray of Hope, as well as new and gently used toys, which are donated to the parents who are clients of Ray of Hope and have older children to provide Christmas gifts to.

Once collected, the ministry leader delivers to the center for distribution.

Parishioners of St. Mary's in Shelbina put out requests each year before Christmas for supplies needed by the Veterans Home in Columbia. The items are collected then delivered to the home. This ministry's leaders check directly to find out the needs before collecting. Items often range from hygiene supplies to warm socks.
